Janes.com is reporting that Ukraine has restarted development of heavy infantry fighting vehicles (IFV) based on the T-64 main battle tank. Ukroboronprom (Ukrainian State Defense Contractor) has stated that work on this vehicle could be completed in time to allow for mass production by the end of the year. Currently Ukraine’s armed forces rely primarily on the BMP-2 as their IFV. It is reported that BMP-2’s have been lost in greater numbers than any other armored vehicle in Ukrainian service, a factor most likely contributing to the renewal in interest in a heavier, T-64 based IFV.

From the Editor: Last October I had agreed to do a phone interview of author Steven Zaloga for a piece that was going to run in Battlefield.scout.com. Unfortunately, Battlefield did not achieve their target readership numbers and the editor was forced to put it into hiatus before the Zaloga interview was posted. Rather than see it get lost, I received permission from the editor of Battlefield to publish the interview on my blog. I have since moved the interview from the blog to Tank and AFV News.com. I want to thank Battlefield for helping set up this interview and for Mr. Zaloga for giving his time. I highly recommend any book by Mr. Zaloga. Hello and welcome to Tank and AFV News. This is a new project by the author of TankandAFVBlog. The goal is to create a one stop location for news about Tanks and AFVs.
