BMPT a no-show at Victory Day Parade

0bae7ae80605421e9d5d7816251c89d6The blog War is Boring has posted a new article asking the question “has the Kremlin fallen out of love with it’s killer BMPT?”  The article notes that the BMPT Terminator was absent in the recent military parade, a sign that it may have fallen out of favor with the Russian Military.  The article reports that the Terminator may be superseded by the T-15 Armata.  The article quotes tank expert Steven Zaloga who makes some interesting comments regarding the new family of vehicles introduced at the Victory Day Parade.

“The Russians are not leaping ahead” with their new armored fleet either, Zaloga noted.  “This is an attempt to catch up.” Zaloga said bluntly. “A lot of this stuff is really stale.”

From the Vault: Zaloga on the Polish Cavalry VS German Panzers myth

polish cavalryDigging through old issues of ARMOR magazine, we have found an article from 1984 written by well known historian and tank expert Steven Zaloga titled “Polish Cavalry Against the Panzers.”  In this piece, Zaloga seeks to put to bed the long standing myth regarding Polish Cavalry troops conducting brave yet futile charges against German Panzers.  As Zaloga puts it:

“Tales of Polish cavalry charges against German tanks during the September 1939 campaign still remain widely believed even amongst serious historians who are otherwise skeptical of similar German propaganda excesses of the period.  The subject has been dealt with in extensive detail by Polish military historians, but most of this material is inaccessible to western historians due to the language barrier.”

Interview with Steven Zaloga

armored champion w zaloga From the Editor: Last October I had agreed to do a phone interview of author Steven Zaloga for a piece that was going to run in Battlefield.scout.com.  Unfortunately, Battlefield did not achieve their target readership numbers and the editor was forced to put it into hiatus before the Zaloga interview was posted.  Rather than see it get lost, I received permission from the editor of Battlefield to publish the interview on my blog.  I have since moved the interview from the blog to Tank and AFV News.com. I want to thank Battlefield for helping set up this interview and for Mr. Zaloga for giving his time.  I highly recommend any book by Mr. Zaloga.  Be sure to check out his upcoming book “Armored Champion” when it comes out this spring.
