Photo of the Day: Cunningham tank a hit with the Ladies

cunningham tank

This photo from 1931 shows a Cunningham T1E3 light tank accompanied by the wives of US Mechanized Force officers.  The image is borrowed from the book “Camp Colt to Desert Storm” which we highly recommend to anyone interested in the history of the US Armored Force (used copes go for as little as a dollar on Amazon!)

Photo of the Day: Starship in the Mud

Today’s Photo of the Day is of an M60A2 “Starship” tank.  Or is it?  Eagle-eyed viewers may notice that the rear engine deck is not of an M60 but rather an M48 or M48A1.  As we understand it, this Frankenstein of a tank was used at Fort Knox for training exercises.

Video of the Day: GoPro Mounted On Iraqi Abrams Tank

This video showed up on Youtube two days ago.  The description states that “with a GoPro mounted on an Abrams, Iraqi military and paramilitary units teamed up to clear the Alsjarih neighborhood of Ramadi.”

This photo comes from the recently updated page on M4 and M4A1 75mm Shermans produced by Pressed Steel Car Co., Inc on the Sherman Minutia website.  The photo above was taken at the Desert Training Center in California around mid 1943, and documents a king pin failure on a transport trailer.

Photo of the Day: Tiger Tank suspension repair

Today’s photo of the day is of a German Tiger tank undergoing repairs to the roadwheels and suspension.  This photo gives a pretty good idea of the amount of work that went into repairing a vehicle with overlapping roadwheels.

Video of the Day: Cross-Country with Chieftain

Since the theme of today’s posts is the British Chieftain, here is a video from British Movietone News called “Cross-Country with Chieftain.”

Today we decided that sometimes the Photo of the Day feature can be a video instead.

Here is a youtube clip of Viivi Pumpanen, Miss Finland 2010, driving a T-55.
