Video of the Day: Abrams Tank Maneuver

This video showed up on Youtube today.  According to the clip description, it shows M1A2 System Enhancement Package (SEP) V2 Abrams main battle tank during Operation Anakonda in the Drawsko Pomorskie Training Area (DPTA) near Olezno, Poland on June 9, 2016. Unit – 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Division, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team.

As US armor transitions from the Middle East back to Central Europe, it’s interesting to see clips such as these where vehicles have a combination of desert and woodland paint schemes.

Video of the Day: T-80 Upside Down

From Ruptly TV comes this youtube clip of an upside down T-80U.  This vehicle fell off a towing vehicle and rolled onto its turret, as it was being transported in the area of Naro-Fominsk in Moscow province, Thursday. No injured were reported.

Video of the Day: Unconvincing Movie “Tigers”

Here is a fairly humorous video of the day.  This clip comes from the unforgivably atrocious 1977 film Achtung! The Desert Tigers.  In this particular scene, a group is shown attacking a German tank column equipped with…M4 Sherman tanks with AMX-13 (FL-10) turrets.  As far as we know, only Egypt operated such a vehicle.  Interestingly, these vehicles also portray German tanks in the  1969 film “War Devils”, which you can watch in its entirety here if you feel like punishing yourself.

This photo of a Matilda I was taken last month at the Tiger Day event at Bovington Tank Museum.  The photo comes from the Flickr page of Massimo Foti, who has amassed a fantastic collection of quality photos of tanks and armored vehicles, primary from around Europe.  He regularly posts his photos at the AFV News Discussion Board, a forum we recommend to anyone that is interested in learning about the many tanks and vehicles on display at museums and other locations.
