Today we present a gallery that is truly outstanding. Paul Hannah, (known as “vagabond” over at the AFV News discussion group) has been able to travel all over the US and Canada, taking pictures of tanks wherever he goes. He and his wife have assembled an amazing photo gallery of tanks from all over, not just museum pieces but also gate guards and individual vehicles sitting out in front of VFW and American Legion halls. If you like pictures of US armor, be prepared to spend plenty of time in this gallery. Visit the gallery here.

Jagdpanzer 38 restoration
War History Online has an interesting article about the restoration of a Jagdpanzer 38 “Hetzer” by Axis Track Services for the Australian Armor & Artillery Museum. The article contains pictures of the restored vehicle next to another preserved Jagdpanzer 38, one of which is an early model, the other from later in the production run. Both vehicles are actual war-time “Hetzers”, not the post war Swiss G-13 variant. Read the full article here. Readers will also find the website for Axis Track Services of interest. They are currently selling vehicle props used in the film “Fury.“
WoT’s Chieftain posts new article: US Centurion Part 1
Over at The Chieftain’s Hatch section of the World of Tanks forum, the Chieftain has published a new article. The beginning of the article is posted below, please follow the link at the bottom to read the entire piece.
US Centurion Part 1 – You will recall that some time ago I covered the US Army’s evaluation of the Sherman Firefly in three parts comparing it to the M4(76) and the M26. Frankly, Firefly didn’t fare all that well. The Cruisers didn’t do all that well against Sherman in either British or American tests either. Well, a couple of years later, a similar, albeit less rigid, set of tests was conducted, comparing Centurion to M26 and T29.
These tests were a little more generic, as they were more focused on the tank as a whole rather than, as in the Firefly’s case, the weapon installation effectiveness. I’ve come across three Centurion reports so far, and I’ll go over then over, again, a period of articles. Interestingly, they are not in the sequence you might expect: The first two reports were filed on the Centurion III in the first half of 1950, the third was of the Centurion II in the second half of the year.

Massimo Foti AFV Photo Gallery
Here is another excellent Flickr gallery of armored vehicles from one of the regular contributors over at the AFV Discussion Board. This gallery is primarily of vehicles located in European museums and locations. The albums for the Saumur Musee des Blindes and the Thun Panzermuseum both contain over 400 photos while the album for Bovington Tank Museum has over 700 photos! There is enough here to keep a tank history enthusiast clicking for quite some time.
“For the Record” article on A28 “Infantry Cromwell”
Over at For the Record there is write up by contributor “Okinoshima” about the British A28 “Infantry Cromwell.” This was a concept for an infantry tank based on the Cromwell A27 cruiser tank that never progressed past the paper stage. Only one drawing of the proposed vehicle is known to exist. The full article can be read here.
Eshleman AFV Photo Gallery
The AFV News Discussion Board hosted by Com-Central.net is home to quite a few AFV shutterbugs who regularly post pictures of the vehicles they track down and photograph. One of the collections of tank and AFV photos worth checking out belongs to Rick and Barb Eshleman, known as flicker user “brick6757.” Their collection includes 30 galleries, quite a few of which feature over a hundred photos or more. The photos are primarily of vehicles in the USA, including galleries of vehicles from Aberdeen Proving Grounds, AAF Museum at Danville VA, US Army Heritage Center, and National USMC Museum.
Saumur Tiger II at Retromobile
This past weekend, the last Tiger II tank in running condition was featured at the Paris Retromobile show. This tank normally resides at the Musee des Blindes in Saumur, France. Several videos have appeared on youtube documenting this historic vehicle arriving at the show and moving into position under it’s own power.

Photo Gallery of former APG vehicles in storage at Anniston Army Depot
Over at the AFV News Discussion board regular poster “the_shadock” posted a link to a really fantastic photo album. The album belongs to Flicker user “cmwebbjr” and features the vehicles formerly stored at Aberdeen Proving Grounds that are now in temporary storage at Anniston Army Depot.
Here is the description posted in the Gallery: In late 2012 the United States Army Museum system began moving many vehicles and weapons that had been in outdoor display at the various Army Museums around the country to temporary storage. Anniston Army Depot was one of the depots designated to receive them and consequently a parking lot there is now filled with a huge amount of history. I was able to get a camera authorization and make a photographic record of these vehicles. I understand that these vehicles will be stored here until a museum has a requirement for a particular example for a display at which time the article will be cosmetically restored and sent to them. Some of these vehicles are one of a kind experimental vehicles or captured military equipment from other countries.
T-39 Soviet Super-heavy Breakthrough Tank
Over at For the Record, they are reporting on a recent Yuri Pasholok livejournal post describing the T-39 Super Heavy Tank proposal. These drawings are from 1933 and were created by the Kirov plant special design bureau under the leadership of N.V. Barykov. The project only got as far as wooden models before being cancelled. “Ensign Expendable” has written a more detailed description of the vehicle here.
